Mom is doing well. She went through a bad spell that started in March. She lost her ability to walk, she did not know who people were, she could not speak well and had to be in a Jerry chair because she could not sit up properly. She also had to be fed. Debbie and I were concerned that she was going to decline and not be with us much longer, that her Alzheimer's had taken a sharp dive. But, she slowly started to come around after a few weeks and is doing quite well considering all. We spoke to Dr. Keigi, her doctor, and he said he believes she suffered a stroke. She did not have drooping mouth or eye, but he said that does not always happen and that he believes that is what happened, thus her ability to come back to almost as she was.
Of course, her disease will not reverse and she will not come back to totally what she was before the stroke but she is doing great. She has got her sense of humor back, loves to laugh and smile and is reading things again. She can feed herself now, does get confused about what to do at times, but is much, much better. She loves to sing again and if we start a song, she joins in and remembers most of the words. We have been taking her out for drives and also to eat out again since she can feed herself, and we take her for walks on the Ashuwillticook Trail at Chesire lake and she LOVES going. She watches the birds and loves to watch the water. Now that summer is here, when we take her out, we make sure to stop and look at flowers. She absolute loves it and uwwws and ahhhs over them.
We enjoy all our moments with her no matter if she knows who we are or not. We get her laughing and she makes us laugh. She still is the super sweet lady she always was and, obviously, God still has things for her to do here on Earth, otherwise he could have taken her with that stroke.
If anyone would like to go visit her, she would enjoy anyone's company. You can take her out for a walk (pushing her in her wheelchair) around the grounds and there is a bench out front of the area she is in where you can sit with her and be outside. Just let someone on the staff know you want to take her out for a walk around the property and they can tell you where the ramp is to take her out.
I will make every effort to put our weekly outings on here with pics so everyone can check in and see how she is doing. If anyone would like something added for any reason, please email me and I will get it put on for you..
God Bless everyone.
Love,
Dianne

Mom and Family at nursing home on April 4, 2009
Mom at nursing home with Trisha holding Frances, Michael & two poodles Grace & Angel. This was shortly after the stroke, before mom started to get better.
Mom & Grace
Grace, my poodle, gently put her nose up to mom's face and mom pet her and stared at her even though she couldn't speak much.
